JP studied sound engineering and travelled with different Afrikaans artists for 4 years. In 2008, while on set for Afrikaans band’s music video, the technical crew did not arrive and so JP was pulled in to help setup lights and grips.
He worked on his first feature film as “gaffer” in 2009 so he says that bug bit me that day.
What JP loves about the job is the versatility, one day you’re on a mountain with spectacular views most people never get to see and the next day you’re in studio creating art on a blank canvas.
The job he enjoyed the most was a feature called iNumber Number with DOP Tom Marais. They had rugged locations and everyday was a clean slate and was able to create magic with lights.
He loves being apart of telling stories through movies and the creativity of commercials where people try and sell the product by going that extra mile with their creativity.
His passions are to make something that no one can imagine but when they see the final product they feel they were apart of it.
JP is an outgoing, good vibes and laughter kind of guy and will always be passionate about telling a story through the eyes of the camera.
